Ensuring NFPA 25 Compliance and First Responder Readiness
Fairfield Fire Protection recently completed a critical 5-year hydrostatic test on the Fire Department Connection (FDC) at The Shoppes at Ety Village in Lancaster, Ohio. This test, mandated by NFPA 25 standards, is a vital procedure that verifies the integrity of fire protection systems relied upon by first responders in the event of a fire.
Hydrostatic testing involves pressurizing the FDC piping system to 150 psi and observing it for any signs of leaks, pressure loss, or blockages. This process is designed to ensure that the entire connection remains structurally sound and free of obstructions — so firefighters have immediate and uninterrupted access to water when seconds count.
During this inspection, our team discovered a failed check valve — a crucial component that prevents water from flowing backward into the supply line. A malfunctioning check valve compromises the reliability of the FDC and poses a serious hazard during emergency response efforts.
We immediately replaced the damaged valve, and the system was re-tested with successful results:
- New check valve installed
- No leaks or pressure loss observed
- FDC restored to full functionality and code compliance
Routine inspections like this are more than just regulatory obligations — they are a commitment to public safety and operational readiness. Fairfield Fire Protection remains dedicated to protecting our community by ensuring that every system we inspect performs flawlessly when it’s needed most.
